Understanding the ROI or business value of design is a compelling, albeit difficult, topic in the UX industry. There are many anecdotal stories to back up the importance of design practices, but most of the time, these anecdotes are only convincing for so long. As executives and investors look to numbers for strategic direction, it is important for organizations, that argue the importance of UX, to utilize data more effectively. In this presentation, I will explore ways that you (and your organization) can take your research and design process to the next level by using data to show the business value of design. I will introduce and discuss the advantages of using a data-driven design process and provide examples on how companies like Google, Uber, Microsoft, and even The NY Times implement similar strategies. To wrap up, I will show how my team and I use this approach at a Fortune 5 healthcare company to increase executive awareness/investment in UX and develop market-leading products.
