In highly regulated fields, being a champion for the user’s experience can be quite a challenge. We try our best to juggle ethical standards, business requirements, stakeholder interests and creative direction, while ensuring users have the most meaningful, useful and supportive experience. When processes are moving to digital spaces, how do we bridge the gap between the physical and digital environment? How can we craft the influx of data into a visual story that users can derive meaning from?

These are the types of problems many of us tackle each day. What can we do to solve them?

I’ll discuss how my team at GroupVisual.io collaborated with SPARK, a national autism research initiative, to create a system of narrative data visualizations that deliver research results back to study participants. By implementing user and expert interviews, user testing, and a lot of creativity, we created an ethical, delightful and actionable experience for SPARK participants and their families.
