According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, anxiety is the most common
mental disorder, affecting 40 million people in the US. Yet this problem seems to be frequently
overlooked when it comes to designing user experiences. I will discuss various problems anxiety-prone people face when interacting with websites and apps including uncertainty, lack of control, decision fatigue, and information overload. Also, I will explore ways to improve user experience for people who suffer from anxiety. My goal is to draw attention to the prevalence of anxiety disorders and encourage digital professionals to embrace inclusive design.
